Archival Fine Art Prints
A Giclee is the contemporary rival of the lithograph.
In the past few years technological advances in the printing
industry have provided the Giclee Print with a superior capacity
for color accuracy and archival capacity. Remarkable levels
of print quality and color accuracy make it difficult to tell
the difference between an original and a Giclee. Rigorous
testing for archival 'light-fastness' insures that the work
you buy will retain it's original vibrancy for a minimum of
80-100 years. For further information, see "About Giclee Prints"
below.

About Giclee Prints
The superior command of color accuracy and archival capacity
make the Giclee Print the premier fine art printing process.
Giclee is a French term meaning 'to spray', or as it applies
to the Giclee print process, 'spray of ink'. Giclee printing
uses ink jet to apply a stream of over 4,000 droplets of pigment
per second onto premium watercolor paper or canvas. Each tiny
and precise droplet is smaller than a human blood cell. This
makes the resolution of the Giclee print higher than a traditional
lithographic print, with dot pitch that is discernable only
under high magnification.
Giclee's also have a wide color spectrum that renders vivid,
saturated colors, and a quality that retains minute detail,
subtle tones and blends. These remarkable levels of quality
and accuracy make it difficult to tell the difference between
an original and a Giclee. Giclee prints have won the recognition
of the fine art critics worldwide and enjoy an impressive
exhibition record. They have been shown in premier museums
and galleries of the world, including the British Art Museum,
the New York Metropolitan Museum, the San Francisco Museum
of Modern Art, and the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary
Art.
Quality Assurance:
Because of the variety of new printing devices on
the market today it is crucial when buying any print, to be
certain of the quality of the process, the inks and the medium.
An especially important factor is the archival capacity of
the work, which depends upon the light fastness of the pigments
and the acid free environment of the medium. The term 'light-fastness'
refers to the ability of an ink or pigment to sustain it's
color over time. To be rated as archival, an image must be
comprised of materials that have been tested to last for at
least one hundred years under normal conditions. ('normal
conditions' is indoor lighting with no direct sunlight.) Rigorous
testing for archival 'light-fastness' insures that the work
you buy will retain its original vibrancy for generations
to come. Awakening Arts uses only the highest quality of archival
inks on the finest quality of canvas or paper. We work with
technicians who are leaders in the field and uphold the most
rigorous standards of excellence.
